Spring is coming and I can’t wait until the season is in full bloom. I’m ready for the florals, daylight savings, picnic dates, and beautiful skies! Not to mention, my wedding! Although it is still chilly here in Charlotte, I thought I’d play with some brighter colors today as a prelude to the spring.
I don’t know what I should talk about first; this skirt, or this beautiful bag. Or my hair!! We’ll talk about hair later. But let’s talk about this handbag. I’m obsessed with the handbags from the designer, Chloe. I absolutely love the “Pixi” handbag. Sometimes, we’re not able to indulge in the finer things and so many brands are putting out their designer inspired looks and I saw this dupe in CatoFashions and immediately picked it up. Let me tell you, this is a nice quality, well-made bag. It’s well structured and sturdy and gorgeous.
Now look at the Chloe Pixi Bag:
Similar, right? I love it. But the winner of today is this beautiful skirt that I snagged from Eloquii. For me, finding a feather skirt that matched my budget and size was difficult until I saw that this skirt was on sale. Unfortunately it sold out, but Eloquii always has unique skirts like this. I have so many ideas to style this skirt, so you’ll be seeing it again.
This skirt can be dressed up or down, with heels, sandals, or flats. The only downfall is the top rolls down when you sit, however the waistband is elastic, so very comfy!
I forgot to mention! This beautiful handbag here, and they also come in pastel pink and purple!
There’s something about blue and white stripes. Anyone can rock it. I’ve seen this dress on a few bloggers from other sites and I went crazy. Every website I visited, they were sold out! So, I was browsing on Forever 21 and saw the exact dress. Sadly, it’s sold out.
I call this my end of summer dress. The high low will allow a little breeze to come in to keep you cool, plus the “party in the front, business in the back” deal. One thing about this dress is the sleeves. It is very tight on the upper arms and I’m wearing a 3x. I’ve read that women will up their size because of the arms, but 3x is the highest size that is accommodated. Don’t expect to be completely flexible in this dress, meaning, wear this dress when you don’t have to do too much movement. Other than that, this dress is neat and unlike anything I have.
As far as accessories go, you can pair this with anything. I added a light brown block heel, but you can add sandals (maybe with Pom poms), minimalistic heel, wedges, or a colorful sandal.
As you can see, my arms do look a tab uncomfortable but, beauty is pain right? No. I’ll probably wear this a few more times before it annoys me, but it amazes me how us women will go through a little discomfort for the sake of fashion, right?
If you have slight larger arms than me, this may not work for you, unless you’re willing to compromise. With that being said, stay tuned for more on my stripe obsession!
You’ll probably see a trend on my blog right now: Blue and white stripes. What is that about? I keep seeing this pattern everywhere and I just want everything in this pattern! This color looks great on anyone and its so simple. The thing about this particular top is simplicity meets FAB. Do you see the detail on this shirt? Let me be honest with you, I have not been able to find a top like this for plus size girl. Maybe I haven’t been looking hard enough. When I though I wasn’t going to find it, I gave up. Then, stalking Forever 21’s website like I normally do, I saw this shirt in all its $25 glory.
How neat is this top? I’m a short kid so the sleeves are a little long, but the great thing about it, is either you can hem it or just roll them up. It has a tiny stretch to it and is very comfortable. Surprisingly, I was able to put it on without any issues. Make sure you have the right sleeve open so you can find it to place your arm in. Although it bares one shoulder, I think it is a modest piece. Who doesn’t love to show off a good shoulder?
I wanted to keep it simple by wearing my white subtle ripped jeans that you’ve seen on her several times. These pants are from Cato’s Fashions and they are dope. They’re boyfriend, has some stretch and is very comfortable. My Steve Madden heels went great with them (wore them for my engagement photoshoot here) and added a pop of color with this Michael Kors purse. I bought it from the Michael Kors outlet and they said this bag is discontinued. 😦
So, previously, I talked about natural hair/beauty subscription services and how they’re a good idea, but it dawned on me that a lot of people may not like the surprise that comes with a service like that. You can check that out here. I decided to share my favorite natural hair products to you in hopes you try something new. When someone sees my natural hair, they always stop to ask what products I use and it will turn into a 30 minute conversation and someone’s shopping cart full to capacity.
After 8-9 years of embracing my natural hair, I’ve managed to achieve curly girl success with affordable products that you can find at your local drug store, beauty supply store, Wal-Mart or Target. So who’s first?
So, I have a holy grail product line and that’s SheaMoisture. They were the first brand that caught my attention and I still use it to this day. The products have natural ingredients and have a thick consistency for dense or thick hair. There is a hair line for every type of hair. You can find these products almost anywhere. I even found some of their products in stores like Ross, TJMaxx, and Marshalls, for a fraction of the price. You can find these products ranging from $7.99 to $12.99, but I encourage you to take advantage of the BOGO sales they have.
True by Made Beautiful
So, when I was subscribed to Curlkit last year, I got the conditioning styling cream in my box, and surprised to see a full size product, I decided to use it in a twist out. Let me tell you, the smell is amazing. I have never smelled anything this fresh for clean for my hair. It reminds me of just getting out he shower and you have that fresh clean smell that lingers for days. My hair stayed moisturized and soft and that smell lingered for days. People would try to sniff my hair. I encourage you to try the entire line (shown above) because they’re great for moisture retention and that smell…Did I mention that they are very affordable? Each product is $8.99 on their website and there are two other lines, Pure and Inspire that looks intriguing. I imagine my hair to naturally smell like the true line when I’m in heaven talking to Jesus. In fact, I imagine His hair smelling like this. It is dope. Not saying this is the best smelling product ever, but its right there. Not to mention your hair is super moisturized and soft and hydrated.
Crème of Nature Argan Oil Moisture & Shine Shampoo
There are not too many shampoos out there that provide moisture and an extra set of hands for detangling, but this shampoo is the truth. I’ve never encountered a shampoo that gives so much slip and doesn’t strip your hair. I can wash my scalp and still detangle at the same time and the smell is amazing. This particular shampoo has sulfate, but never fear, there is also one without. Let me tell you, the sulfate shampoo gives lots of suds. To me that tells me my hair is getting cleaned. Normally lots of suds leads to dried out hair. Not this shampoo! The edge control here is always a plus, it lays my stubborn edges down with no problem and when it wears out, my hair softens and leaves no weird residue.
Carols Daughter Precaxi Nectar
I’m not one to buy anything because someone said so, but I saw the advertisng on these products from their youtube channel, not to mention some of my favorite bloggers try this out and every one of them loved it. The interesting thing about the reviews was that each girl had a different hair type. So I’m like, it works for any hair type? No way. I use this for when I “wash” and ‘go.” The leave in conditioner is very hydrating and the gel gives a great hold without being crunchy. No one likes crunchy hair.
Camille Rose Naturals Coconut Water Leave-In Treatment
There’s something about coconuts. I love the smell. Have you ever tried the Kinky Curly Knot today? Its just like this, only smells better. The amount of slip that it gives you for detangling purposes is unreal. It will literally slide the knots out with no problem. It is on the pricier side ($14) but it will be the best $14 you spent. You can also use it as a styling product too. If you ask me, the entire Camille Rose Naturals lines are to die for. They are very moisturizing, and have a thick consistency so the product will penetrate your strands. Not to mention, they smell like a sweet surprise.
A few other favorites includes the entire Entwine Couture line. Let me tell you. These products intensifes our curls. Its like you have super juicy moisturized curls. My aunt wanted to try those products so I gave them to her to try and she loved them! These products are definitely on the high end side in my opinion. The crème Jelle styler can cost you $16.99. However, a little goes a long way so these will last.
If you’re a fan of rod sets but benefit from a mousse or setting lotion, I recommend Lotta Body’s Wrap Me mousse. This leaves no white cast residue and gives a great hold without drying out my hair.
If you haven’t tried these, I definitely suggest you should. A plus about these brands, is they carry several other products that will work well for your hair. I have several others that I liked, but these are always in my closet
It’s a beautiful, hot scalding day here in Charlotte, where your makeup is guaranteed to slide off your face no matter how much setting spay you put on and your clothes will stick to your body! But none the less, it is beautiful, right. So, remember how I said I’m a late bloomer? Yeah right, me either. But I’m a late bloomer. I’m late th show for everything and I’m always the last to get anything. However, that doesn’t meant that I don’t research in the meantime. With that being said, let’s talk about a little Black Girl Magic, shall we? I am loving all of it and I love how my beautiful sisters are out creating and putting their passions out in the world and I’m here to support. So, my first post is dedicated to The Lip Bar Products.
Meet Melissa, the founder and creator of the brand, The Lip Bar. If you remember, she and her partner were on Shark Thank a couple of years ago promoting their brand and hopefully gained investors to take her business to the next level. Now, I never watched the show, but from what I can tell, you have several investors listening to business ideas and deciding which to invest. After listening to their pitch, they turned them down, but not before referring to them as colorful cockroaches. I felt like they belittled the brand, and they laughed when she said they created a Lip Bar mobile! I’m like, fashion and beauty on wheels is where it’s at!
She created this brand because when it comes to beauty, our health is always at risk with so many harsh chemicals. Also, the beauty industry only seems to cater to a particular type of beauty. So, she created these beautiful lipsticks with vibrant, show stopping colors that can be worn on ANYONE. Also, she made them in her kitchen. A few years later, The Lip Bar is a hit and their beauty mobile is awesome. Her lipsticks are in high demand, everyone is wearing them and some are always sold out. I feel bad for the investors. I don’t know her, and maybe she’ll read this, but she persevered! I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with.
I finally got my hands on a couple (we have a budget, remember?) and I tried them out and I loved them. Each lip color was $13. I picked two colors for the summer, Boy Trouble and CurlFriend both part of the liquid matte collection. For me, orange is really hard to pull off. I either find one that is a sheer, or not pigmented or the wrong undertone. I’ve only found a couple lippies in orange that fits me, but I ran out, so I needed a new one. Boy trouble is super vibrant, bright deep orange color that is perfect for summer. Like any matte lippie, make sure your lips are good and moisturized before applying. This goes on wet and dries matte.
Curlfriend is the everyday nude that I can wear, everyday! Because I would wear it everyday, I’m a little sad that the packaging is smaller though. I love the fine point of the brush applicator that lets me get into the smaller parts of my lips and I love how this is a universal color.
Boy Trouble is a fiery orange that is a showstopper; someone will always ask about it. My favorite makeup look is a simple face and a bold lip, so picking this color was a no brainer. One thing I will say, is make sure you exfoliate your lips before applying because your imperfections (chapped lip, cracked skin) may show.
There are a few more of her colors I intend to try like Bawse Lady, however it is currently sold out. Overall, I love how vibrant these colors are and that they are vegan! Definitely head over to Lip Bar’s site and pick up a few for yourself.
