Wash day. Great. So exciting. LOL! Just kidding! I love wash days! It’s nothing like clean hair. Today will be much more special because I’m doing a protein treatment! My hair has been dry and brittle and also popping. Ugh, I hate that! I decided to make my own concoction, which is olive oil and eggs. Because my hair is so long, I used 3 eggs and I winged about 1/4 cup of olive oil. I started on dry, shrunken hair (see below) and I decided to use my fingers for this process.
Okay, brace yourselves, this party got a little messy. I took small pieces of hair and coated each piece with the mix until completely soaked. Unfortunately, I didn’t record that part in my video, but its only one way to do this. 🙂 While coating each piece, I made sure to slightly detangle just by pulling the strands gently when I ran the mix down the hair. This is what it looked like when it was finished!
I made sure to concentrate on the middle to the ends because that’s where I needed it the most. I let the egg/olive oil mix sit until it was about 65% dry. At this point, when drying, I made sure to be careful because one wrong tug could tear the hair. So what did I use for the cleansing process?
I’ve been a fan of this brand since my “creamy crack” days, so I was excited when this came in one of my monthly Curlkit subscriptions. Here’s what I thought about the products. First and foremost, the smell is amazing. I already talked about the shampoo in an earlier post so I won’t rant there. The conditioner kept my hair moisturized after shampooing and the detangling process was great. I didn’t have to use a comb for the washing process. I used the combing cream as a leave in which left my hair completely soft and moisturized. The rejuvenating oil provided a great shine to my hair afterwards. I’m excited to show you my first YouTube video on this process, down to the rod style I chose! I’m still new at this! Enjoy!
As a fellow natural, I’ve always read that we shouldn’t always wash our hair with shampoo because our hair is stripped of its natural oils. For me, I can’t go without shampoo so I had to find a good one that will not only help me keep my natural oils in tact, but will also aid detangling as well. So I found a couple products I love and would like to share with you!
My favorite shampoo of all time is the Crème of Nature Argan Oil from Morocco Sulfate Free Shampoo (trying saying that 3 times). This shampoo can be found pretty much anywhere: Walmart, or your local beauty supply store. What I love about this shampoo is not only does it hydrate my hair, it gently cleanses my hair without any harsh moisture stripping agents. The best thing about this shampoo is that it helps detangle while adding extra moisture to my hair! That’s an A+ in my book! I’ve been using this shampoo for a couple years and its always been a staple in my hair care regimen. I always use this shampoo on extremely dry, brittle hair, and I can use my fingers to rake my hair thoroughly.
The Optimum shampoo from the Amla Legend line was introduced to me in a monthly Curlkit this spring. I received this shampoo along with other full size products as well. I was skeptical about using it because my hair doesn’t like anything else. After a protein treatment, I used this to cleanse my hair, which completely helped getting out excess tangles, removing buildup as well. It was easy to slide my fingers through each strand of hair, and removing any knots. This product also smells amazing!
What’s your favorite shampoo?
This past weekend, I went to the “A” with my honey, Benjamin for a weekend getaway. Atlanta is one of my favorite places to visit. The shops, the restaurants, the events, and nightlife are endless. Also this weekend was the Taaliah Waajid Word Natural Hair Show. I’ve learned about this event years ago and I try to go to check out new natural hair products and also meet my favorite Youtubers! Events like this always have discounts on products that you can replenish and even new things that has yet to be released! I visited my favorite booths like Crème of Nature, Camille Rose Naturals, and LottaBody. Crème of Nature had color demonstrations and workshops about color care not to mention great prices of bundle items. Camille Rose Naturals had their items for $10/each so I definitely hit jackpot. LottaBody had an awesome bundle bag for $15 which was a steal!
For me, a couple of hours is all I need at the event (maybe I’ll stay for all the events next time) and then I’m out to enjoy the rest of my time in Atlanta. Shout out to my honey for putting up with me and all things girly. He took all the pics for me while I roamed around!
Our next stop was the Georgia Aquarium! The Georgia Aquarium is the world’s largest aquarium in the world and absolutely stunning! Ben and I were kids in that place. We went at an awkward time so we missed the events, like the Dolphin shows, or a chance to see divers interact with the fish. All in all our time there was great and we even had a caricature made!
Before dinner, we had to visit the infamous Lenox Square Mall where I purchased a pair of Tory Burch Miller Sandals. I’ve had my eyes on them for a very long time and I deserved something nice. After extensive research, I got them! Tory Burch does have quality shoes, and I’m definitely going to get my money’s worth. After leaving, I had to stop by Sprinkles and experience purchasing cupcakes through their ATM machine. I just picked the cupcakes I wanted, swipe my card and the cupcakes appear through the square slot!
One of the perks in attending the World Natural Hair Show is getting discounts on natural hair products, not to mention trying new products and checking out new hair/body care lines from popular companies. I only purchased items from three vendors, and I’m happy to share what I got in detail!
I purchased three new items from Camille Rose Naturals. I got a few items for Christmas and my hair loved them. When I saw their booth at the event, I had to get in there, despite the crowds. I’m always looking for great leave in conditioners, so I picked up two that I cannot wait to try. I’ve been dabbling in the Whipped Shea Body Butter and it smells powder fresh. It has a shea butter consistency and the scent lingers all day and you don’t even need perfume! Each of these products at the booth were $10 each, which is a great deal since you know Camille’s products can be quite pricey.
I went to the LottaBody booth to see what they had to offer since I am a big fan of their Love Me 5-n-1 Miracle Styling Cream (Check Here) that I use for my twist outs. They were selling a bundle bag of full size products for $15! That’s right! $15! They even left a few samples in their bags as well. I’ve heard great things about the foaming mousse so I’m excited to try all these products. The best thing about these products that is they are quite inexpensive as well, so click on the LottaBody link above to check them out for yourself.
I love Crème of Nature. I’ve been using their products for years back when I was relaxed. When they came out with the Argan Oil line, I had to try and their shampoo is my favorite! I was able to get a 5 piece set of full size products for only $20!
Check out the pics of what I bought! I can’t wait to use them all.
